Roster News: Jets sign free agent cornerback Jeremy Reeves

While it was somewhat buried in all the speculation following DeSean Jackson’s release, the Jets announced one transaction today. They’ve signed cornerback Jeremy Reeves. Reeves was a projected late-round pick in the 2013 draft but then missed all of 2013 following pectoral surgery in March.

The 5’7″ 170-pounder ran at Iowa State’s pro day last week and turned heads with a sub-4.3 forty and 43″ vertical leap despite the fact he was nursing a sore hamstring. He was an honorable mention all-Big XII selection in 2012.

Reeves has similar size to the recently departed Isaiah Trufant, who joined the Browns on a two-year deal, so the Jets may be looking at Reeves as someone they can groom for a similar role. He’s obviously athletic, so perhaps they could also get him involved in the return game. However, he didn’t return kicks in college (other than a touchdown on an onside kick).
