While it was somewhat buried in all the speculation following DeSean Jackson’s release, the Jets announced one transaction today. They’ve signed cornerback Jeremy Reeves. Reeves was a projected late-round pick in the 2013 draft but then missed all of 2013 following pectoral surgery in March.
The 5’7″ 170-pounder ran at Iowa State’s pro day last week and turned heads with a sub-4.3 forty and 43″ vertical leap despite the fact he was nursing a sore hamstring. He was an honorable mention all-Big XII selection in 2012.
Bent, TheJetsBlog.comReeves has similar size to the recently departed Isaiah Trufant, who joined the Browns on a two-year deal, so the Jets may be looking at Reeves as someone they can groom for a similar role. He’s obviously athletic, so perhaps they could also get him involved in the return game. However, he didn’t return kicks in college (other than a touchdown on an onside kick).
