Ryan Names Sanchez as Starter Against Jacksonville

Eric Weeks, TheJetsBlog.com

We finally have our answer and it’s a certain fact to be unpopular. That being said, this takes us back to the point Bob Glauber made yesterday that Sanchez should at the very least be given a chance to respond to being benched to see if there is any hope left for his future in New York. Prior to this, it was always just threats but never before last Sunday had he actually been benched. Sanchez’s Jekyll and Hyde act has left me and many others disenchanted which is largely why I don’t agree with this decision but, the Jets have very little to lose at this stage of the game and they seemingly have a viable back-up and game manager in Greg McElroy if things sour quickly. Of course, if Sanchez is able to respond positively and carve up Jacksonville’s woeful defense (31st against the run and 28th against the pass) then that will likely prolong the inevitable. Make no mistake, Mark is on a very short leash and if he does not perform well early against Jacksonville, he and that clipboard will get friendly real quick now that the warning shots have been fired by Rex and Woody Johnson who allegedly wanted McElroy to start.
