Saunders’ ‘medical incident’ was a seizure

Rex Ryan confirmed that Jalen Saunders’ “medical incident” was a seizure.

Saunders missed the last two preseason games after suffering the seizure en route to the Jets’ facility before the Bengals game.

The wide receiver was a full participant in practice on Monday.

Florham Park, N.J., police released an accident report which said Saunders had a “medical event” while driving a 2014 Toyota Corolla. Saunders, driving to the Jets facility to begin the trip to Cincinnati, was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Park Avenue onto Florham Road about 7:50 a.m. He failed to make a full turn, crossed the northbound lanes and struck a curb before coming to rest in the grass, less than a mile from the facility.

Saunders’ driving privileges were revoked after the accident and he hasn’t been back behind the wheel of a car since (Logan, Aug. 25).

DirecTV is apparently going to sign a new nearly 10 year deal with the NFL. So, they'll continue to be the only company capable of offering out of market games.

F*** you DirecTV. And f*** you too Mr. Goodell, you rat b******.

saunders is too small to play every down. hence the seizure from taking too many hits. it clearly was a waste of a 4th round pick. elington who went to the 49ers with the next pick was a much better selection. he has drawn raves in camp. he is short but very solid unlike the frail saunders. rex is in no position to throw away draft picks because his son has a fancy for a QB he played with. many solid contributors are selected in late rounds or as a free agent. tons and tons of them. to throw away a pick like that on boyd is unjustified and unacceptable.

I would assume that the underlying cause of the seizure has been determined or he would still be on the shelf. One could speculate that it is a contagious condition and that is the reason that Patterson was missing.

Hopefully Simms and Boyd can hook up a few times with Saunders Thursday night. i think Jets fans will really like this kid once they see him do his thing...

Excited to see what this kid can add. Really hoping he becomes a offensive piece and not just a special teams player. We have the fundamental guys in decker Kerley and Nelson .. Now we need to add a burner to stretch the field even more.

Our offense is going to be good and that's the truth. Geno is not a scrub he's going to be a weapon not just a game manager.

Throw in Decker Kerley CJ Amaro and Saunders and this offense is scary. YES SCARY. He'll even ivory looked good catching screens. I think what were going to see this season is what happens when you have a real OC with some good players. Which we haven't had in a while.

I'm ready baby. Thurs watch out for Enunwa and Saunders. They are going to get a lot of reps and hopefully show some promise.

Bent if you are still taking questions and if no one else asked:

What is the official ruling on Wilson's near interception? They seemed to indicate that he hadn't re-established himself in bounds after being out of bounds. If that's the case, what exactly does a player need to do to re-establish themselves in bounds?

Thanks

Noticed some guys had questions for me in the Expendables post.  Will address these in BGA Extra along with any others I've had from the preseason so far.  Expect that on Wednesday.

Nice to get some answers for a change.  Hopefully this was an isolated thing we can put behind us.

Oh man... that's terrible. Semi-pleasing to hear that doctors are okaying him to continue playing football. Just hope he's not at any extra risk of harming himself more seriously.

Wow, hope this young man is ok.  Scary in that I equate seizures with "head" issues and this young man  as a slot receiver/kick returner will be putting a lot on the line.

The only important part of this article for everyone who isn't a team doctor is "The wide receiver was a full participant in practice on Monday."

@juunit DAMNIT.

i heard that there was a shot google or someone actually capable of providing a decent streaming service might pick it up.  oh well.

@juunit How is this a good business model? I can't imagine that Direct TV can pay as much by itself as multiple cable providers could if they slice up the pie.

You confirmed this?

Clearly he has Ebola and we're all going to die.

I hope after he catches a TD, he throws himself on the ground and starts flopping around.  Best TD celebration ever.

@Bent If I may add a question: In the third game, how did Geno look in his progressions? Was he looking off safeties or staring down receivers at all? Are you able to tell if he was looking through his progressions before needing to scramble?

Thanks Bent, your BGA's are awesome!

Many things can cause seizures including dehydration, head injuries, certain contagious diseases...I feel very bad for the young man. His big chance to realize his dreams and he has this extremely frightening episode. I hope the mediots allow him to move past it.

The old men of the NFL working with Google or changing what they do in any way that's beneficial?

Ha! You sir, need to re-examine your glass. It is neither half full nor empty. It's got as much liquid as Goodell says you get. Kind of like the player conduct policies.

@Brendan @juunit

In the past, they paid $1B per season. The new deal is for $1.4B.

I would imagine it's one of those "we'll take a little less to get guaranteed money every year" kind of things.

I just wish the NFL wasn't so greedy and nonchalant about the needs of its fan base. Lots of people are left screwed because they simply cannot get DirecTV because of where they live.

Couldn't the NFL risk a little loss to placate the fans? But, I digress, because that's an enormously stupid question. The NFL wants artists to pay for the privilege of performing at half time of the Superbowl. Clearly, any penny lost is unacceptable. Roger Goodell has to get that 500 foot yacht built in solid gold somehow.

@Brendan @juunit

That's what I was thinking as well...you'd think that making a package available to everyone would get a lot more subscriptions (Revenue) for the NFL...

You can get The same package through a gaming system.

This medical event gave Jalen Saunders the opportunity to show his character, and based on his statements that I read, the young man has a very good character. I think that he is going to be an excellent football player for the NY Jets.

We may also be reminded that driving a car is a privilege.

@juunit Are they still going to have the Madden deal this year? Or was that just last season?

@juunit @Brendan

I think Direct TV is doing like printer companies.

Sell the printers near cost but make up the difference in Ink Cartridges...

Here it is pay for the exclusive rights and make ittle or nothing doing that to increase sunscriptions to Direct TV service contracts...

@brendan @juunit

I guess Direct TV is giving the NFL such a sweetheart deal that they woin't risk anything else.

Maybe once Goodell retires. Or if the internet makes regular television completely obsolete within the next decade or two and they're forced to re-evaluate.

j3tsfan29

Nope but if you are in an apt or in specified no direct tv zones you can pay 200$ and stream games.

RockyMountainJet

@Brendan @juunit Last season only. This year direcTV offers the "stream only" package to limited areas for $200 (double the cost of last year's.)

I paid 330$ for it, I'll be streaming like a sob.
