Jets Rookie Diary: Jeremiah George

During Jets training camp, a number of players will be sharing their thoughts and experiences from their first NFL season.

ILB Jeremiah George was a fifth-round pick by the Jets out of Iowa State in the 2014 NFL Draft. The 5 foot 11 inch, 234 pound George was named to the First Team All-Big 12- AP and named the MVP of the Cyclones while leading the the team and Big-12 in tackles. The team captain was fourth in the nation in tackles per game (11.1).

It’s been great getting my first rookie camp under my belt and coming out, trying to compete and trying to get better every single day. I want to show these older guys and coaches what I can do. It’s been a great opportunity and I’m really enjoying it.

The big change from college is how well you have to take care of your body. In college, you may be able to get away with not ice-tubbing or not stretching very well before practice. But here in the pros, everybody’s going 100 miles per hour, every single day, trying to make the team. You have to make sure your body’s well taken care of and making sure that you’re in your playbook every night, trying to understand the new concepts that’s being instilled.

jeremiah georgeI think staying healthy is something that you personally have to do to avoid having to go to the trainers in the first place, because you don’t want to be injured during this crucial time. You want to make sure you’re healthy, so you’re doing anything and every that’s required. You’re even asking some of the strength coaches what some new stretches I could do, some new mobility exercises I can do to try to just have an edge.

Playing under Rex Ryan is great. His defense is a well-oiled machine and there’s a bunch of moving parts, but when they move together, it’s hard to beat. Being in this defense, learning from my coach and learning from our defensive coordinator — and Rex himself — it’s been really good. And I hope I can take some of these things and continue to grow as a player.

As a rookie, I’m one of the youngest guys in the room and I just watched how [the veterans] diligently take notes, and how they ask specific questions and what they’re looking at when we watch film.

I’m just taking every day one day at a time, and I’m excited for whatever happens.

George signed a deal worth a shade over $2.4 million, including a signing bonus of roughly $192,000.

George had the third most bench presses of any linebacker during the NFL Combine with 28. He could not participate in positional drills, shuttle drills or the 3-cone drill, though, because he pulled a hamstring while running the 40-yard dash.

Josh Brown loses a season for smoking some dope-never any violence.  Ray Rice drags his knocked out wife off an elevator & loses 2 games.  NFL is F%^&ed up.

I hate to post this here but I don't know where else to post it. I plan on going to opening day and want to greet the players when they arrive at the stadium off the school bus. What time should I get there so I can greet them? Thanks go jets!

@marcus81 @Ron Alexander he was over drafted by in the first place and he's pretty much been invisible for us so i think there's a very good chance no one claims him.
