Supplemental Draft Recap

Today’s Supplemental Draft has come and gone and, as expected…

All four players are now free agents, so any team can try to sign them. More details on the players available are here.

After the jump, we wrap up our comprehensive supplemental draft coverage with some in-depth analysis.

Supplemental Draft – The Class of 2014

Nobody.

Grades

As usual, most of the experts have been bashing the Jets so far. Apparently Gary Myers is contemplating sending out a tweet saying that they will regret passing on Darius Lipford for years to come, Adam Schein was overheard saying that the selection of nobody was “already a disaster” and several beat writers are already mocking the Jets behind the scenes for even considering LaKendrick Ross because he “doesn’t fit their system”.

Contest update

Since nobody has been picked so far, we don’t have a clear winner. However, if Ross ends up signing with the Jets as a free agent, Marcus and Hank from Naples will be joint winners with one point each.

Johnson again demands a trade from the Texans, he has already lost a million bucks in not showing up so that proves he is dead set on being traded. I sooooo do hope we are kicking the tires on that!!!

I'm of the opinion that the Jets best chance of improving on offense is by using a 2 TE set with Amaro and Cumby. I'd start Kerley and Decker on the outside and use a combination of Saunders and Ford in the slot. I'd use just one RB in Chris Johnson so that I could always keep 2 TE's on the field and also use Johnson as a receiving threat.....

To me this group gives the Jets the best chance to be a much improved offense.....

I'd get rid of as many of the guys who saw playing time the last 2 years at WR as possible........If I kept Hill it would be as a bench warmer and I think Gates is better than Hill to be honest......

Maybe I'm harsh on the offense but I'd rather expect the worst and be surprised.......The Jets have been a joke on offense for so long that I'd rather go into this season with low expectations....

F CIMINI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ESPN is doing a countdown of the three most memorable plays in every NFL team’s history. DICK Cimini was in charge of nominating three plays for the fans to vote on as most memorable play in Jets history, and here they are:

Which is the most memorable play in Jets' history?

These are the best plays that DICK Cimini can think of?

Why does DICK Cimini bother covering a team that he hates so much?

just finished watching the Jets 2013 season again. it looked like Geno played well when he didnt have to throw to receivers that were slightly above sewer to sewer guys. that 4 game stretch without kerley and winslow to a degree was more of an aberration i think.

i guess Coach Spo will be looking for work in a few years when his record goes from the penthouse to the outhouse

@bradysucks

Only fly in that ointment may be Amari's ability to learn a complicated playbook...

That and the predictability.

@jaym Don't sweat him, we as Jets fans know there are many games that should have been mentioned like the Monday Night miracle with Vinny and the Jets coming from behind and beating the patriots, O'brien's shoot out win/wins against Marino, Namath's gaurantee to win Super Bowl 3 and doing it, what about Pennington's wins against Manning and Brady back to back in the playoffs, F Cimini.

Uh, he writes $hit like that so people will be inflamed and respond in a public way thereby getting free advertising and spreading the $hit and his name over and over again.  Ignore him and he will go away.

@jaym He likes getting Jets fans riled up, that is how he makes his money, deal with it and stop feeding him!

I don't have much respect for the Jets wide receivers.....I'd rather give them no respect......I think all fans should disrepect the Jets receivers so that they go into the season with a HUGE chip on their shoulders and something to prove......These guys to me haven't earned respect because they've been carried by the Jets defense......I feel the same way about Geno,,,

I think Amaro will be just fine......In my opinion Amaro and Cumby should be used the way the Patriots used to use Gronk and Hernandez........This to me is a no brainer and I think Morninweg is a fool if the 2 Tight Ends aren't getting at least 6 to 10 catches every game.....

Chris Johnson - hopefully is "as advertised." I'd throw it to CJ2k often

As I said....I expect bad things from this group on offense and WANT to disrespect them and be proved WRONG

@SackDance99 I was at that game and left at halftime. We were kicking ourselves in the car as we listened to the game on the radio.

@SackDance99 @jaym Reminds me of when I was a kid watching the Jets, Ken O'brien was better then people gave him credit for boy o boy can that guy throw some beautiful passes.

Supposedly he did a poll for the people who comment on ESPN NY and these are the plays the fans picked.

They didn’t stop there, either. Let’s get a rundown of everything included in this wonderful package:

- Free lap dances for life.
- Judging the “Dollars For Scholars” amateur pole dancing competition (15,000 scholarship in his name to the winner.)
- A new drink called “The Melo Carmelo” to be served in the club forever.
- His own personal ball girl and cheerleading squad for every Knicks game that would only cheer for Carmelo.
- A topless charity basketball game in his honor (in which he could play) … “where holding is not a foul.”

@bradysucks

They keep mentioning the expectations of running backs on the NFL Channel.  The omission of Chris Johnson is giving me a chip on MY shoulder!

@bradysucks Amaro hasn't played a down in the NFL. i'm not sure what the basis is for "I think Amaro will be just fine". Expecting Amaro to be a major contributor starting in 2 TE sets is a bit premature

@bradysucks

Following your logic, we should give rookies EVEN LESS respect because they have not done BUPKISS and most rookies end up busts anyway!

@bradysucks @a57se

Bradysucks, you trying to tell Marty Mornhinweg how he should run his offense and how good his receivers are (that he sees every day in practice and you don't) is almost as funny as Interested Jet trying to tell Rex Ryan how and why he's misusing Defensive Player X by playing him out of position.

Between your football acumen and Marty's, I'm going to go with Marty's.

@Pablo Bruno @SackDance99 @jaym I still think Joe (Must Go) Walton ruined O'Brien by drilling it into him to take a sack rather than throw the ball away. Poor Kenny averaged more than 40 sacks from '85 to '91.

@a57se @jaygo @jaym He crowdsourced via twitter actually - and this is a Sportsnation poll so many non-Jets fans would have voted.

Nothing from the Super Bowl, the win over the Pats in the playoffs?

Cmon Cimini is a POS

Nick Hall

@tsjc68 @Nick Hall the last one aint bad, but unless he wanted a laugh judging an amateur pole dancing competition is a waste of time. now a professional pole dancing competition is a different story.

Well Amaro caught a huge number of passes in college and he is a massive target with good speed and route running ability for his size...

Once he learns the playbook there is no reason he shouldn't be a big asset on offense for Vick or Geno...

But again....I don't really think anybody on the Jets offense should be given respect until they earn it on the football field

bradysucks
bradysucks

That would be fine with me....

Maybe if the Jets put a professional pass offense on the field this year they will get some respect. I'm just saying my expectations are LOW and I'd prefer to be pleasantly surprised - That goes for veterans and rookies on this offense

After 2012 & 2013 and what I saw from the Jets offense I'd rather have low expectations! Let the offense surprise us

@tsjc68 @bradysucks @a57se

I don't think anybody needs football acumen to figure out that using BOTH of those 2 Tight Ends is a good idea,,,,,,

By the way......I'll give the offense respect and the coaches respect once I see IMPROVEMENT.....

What I've seen the past 2 years has been Dog sh.....

So like I said .....low expectations and no praise from me for the Jets offense....

They can show us on the field why we as fans should sing their praises...

The DEFENSE gets my respect...

You mean Marty - the guy who had the 30th rated passing offense in the league...

Got bad news for you genius......I could have done that.....

Morninweg hasn't proved jack sh...... in NY

It didn't help that he had ZERO mobility...and didn't handle pressure real well.

Give him time, though and he was surgical.

I have no love for the Cimidiot but in this one, it seems like he was just catering to his audience.

He didn't have to but he is a POS so what would anyone expect?

I must know what is in the "Melo Carmelo".  I'm hoping it involves Jenever, Orange Curaçao, and a can of Unwind™.

@bradysucks not sure it matters whether we "respect" the players on Offense or not, but i wouldnt be surprised to see the Offense average 21+ points per game this season.

@a57se @jaym What really sucks about him is that he is not a stupid guy and he has something to say but he resorts to trolling and pandering to get attention.  In interviews, he's usually straight up and interesting.  Hiding behind a by-line is when he becomes suspect.

bradysucks

@Nick Hall @bradysucks

Sure...It doesn't matter if we "respect" the Jets offense...

That is a personal choice. I get it that some fans want to always give players the benefit of the doubt. I get that some people think being a fan means you support the players no matter how terrible they play.....

My view is that professional athletes are competitive and want to be respected. I think they know when fans don't think highly of them and I think that in some players this creates extra motivation to prove the doubters wrong.......My feeling is that the Jets offense should have inspired many people who are doubters since 2012......and to me that is a good thing...Nobody on that offense should feel comfortable.....or proud of their performance

@bradysucks The Offense made me feel good by the end of last season. i just watched the 2013 season again and i enjoyed watching the Offense mature when Kerley returned and Geno began making quicker and better decisions. i don't know if this will carry over, but i'm encouraged that the Offense will be productive this season.
